Reasons for hair loss in women

While society most commonly associates hair loss with men, this problem does affect many women across the country too. The American Academy of Dermatology released statistics that show that by the age of 40, around 40 percent of women will show signs of hair loss. • Post-birth hair loss: During and after pregnancy, women's bodies go through a variety of of hormonal and bodily changes. One of these changes manifests itself in the form of hair loss. Sometimes this occurs in certain mothers after they stop breastfeeding. This loss is only temporary, yet if the condition happens to persist, consult a medical professional.
• Genetics: For some women, this thinning or loss occurs due to hair follicles being genetically predisposed to being sensitive to androgens, which are male circulating hormones. This genetic hair loss is called androgenetic alopecia and can be inherited from either side of your family. This condition begins slowly, but can spread to the rest of the scalp.
